Breast Cancer Awareness Month
In collaboration with UTS Academic Resource Centre (ARC) and Cancer Advocacy and Awareness Kuching (SCAN), Persatuan Wanita UTS organized Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2024, aiming to raise awareness on the importance of early detection and provide valuable insights into cancer prevention. The event, held today, featured insightful talk from medical professional, Dr. Sharifah Ashrina Binti Wan Ali, the Head of Breast Surgery at Sarawak General Hospital. Attendees were also deeply moved by the powerful and uplifting stories shared by four breast cancer survivors from SCAN, who highlighted their personal journeys of resilience, hope, and the importance of support in overcoming the disease.
As emphasized by Datin Dayang Mariani Abang Zain, Yang Dipertua Persatuan Wanita UTS and herself a breast cancer survivor, regular and scheduled breast examinations are crucial for early detection. She urged women to take control of their health by adhering to recommended screening schedules, stressing that early detection can save lives. Her message reinforced the importance of prioritizing routine check-ups as a powerful preventive measure.
Also at the event venue, there were general health screenings, breast examinations, and exhibitions organized by Hospital Sibu, Pink Ribbon Clinic, and Lembaga Penduduk dan Pembangunan Keluarga Negara (LPPKN).
