RELIEF EFFORTS FOR KAMPUNG HILIR FIRE VICTIMS

Persatuan Wanita University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) has compassionately launched a donation drive to assist the Kampung Hilir fire victims. The fire that broke out in the late evening of 22nd September 2024 destroyed 17 houses and affected more than 100 victims, leaving them homeless and in urgent need of assistance.

As a gesture of solidarity with the victims of this tragedy, the Persatuan Wanita UTS conducted the donation drive from 24 to 27 September 2024. The drive received various contributions from the UTS campus community, including hygiene products, non-perishable food and drinks, clothing, stationery kits for school children, baby products, as well as other essential items urgently needed by the fire victims.

The primary goal of the donation drive is to alleviate the burden of the victims during this challenging time. The donated items are expected to ensure that the victims have access to daily necessities while they await further assistance and the recovery process.

The donation handover was led by UTS Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Khairuddin Ab. Hamid, to the Sibu Red Crescent Society for distribution to the fire victims. Persatuan Wanita UTS also expressed its gratitude to those who contributed to this effort and hopes that more associations and charitable bodies will come forward to offer support to the affected victims.
